Cathedral of the resurrection of Christ
The large temple is made of brick and tiles, probably it was built in the late 17th century, but consecrated only in 1764 when it was completed. Four-column double-light triple-roof building with a two-tier eight-migrant light drum above the eastern part. The facade decor is in the spirit of 17th century Novgorod architecture. Next to the church there is a single multi-storey bell tower of the 1st half of the 18th century. It was closed in the 1930’s.
Church of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker
It was built in 1432, and collapsed in 1520. The current brick church dates 1736 but it was probably rebuilt later. It is a rectangular single-storey one-wing building. It was closed in the late1930’s.
On the border of two districts, Shimsky and Starorussky, in Buregi there is a huge destroyed church building in the name of the Resurrection of Christ. This temple was built on the bank of the river Psija in the eighteenth century. It is decorated with stone pattern on the shaped window eyelets, painted in 1799 with beautiful frescoes. Inside you can also see evangelical stories «Taking off from the cross», «Sequestering the head of John the Precursor» and other no less wonderful ones. On the western wall of the temple there are images of the scenes of the Last Judgment, on the pillars there are figures of the Saints. The Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in the Monastery of Buregi is an object of cultural heritage, it is under state protection and it has a federal category of historical-cultural significance.
The Church is a cultural heritage object of federal importance. In 2023 the work on preserving the temple was completed to prepare for a subsequent full restoration.
